James N. Knipe

James N.  Knipe

Tybee Island- James N. Knipe departed this life on May 27, 2012. He was born on June 18, 1927 in Woodbury, New Jersey where he lived for 22 years. He then went to Easton, Pennsylvania where he lived for 38 years and then on to Tybee Island where he retired in 1987.

Jim graduated from Woodbury High School where he was a 4 letter sport athlete and earned 9 varsity letters. He was a state discus champion and a member of the championship basketball and track teams. Jim loved and participated in many sports. He was graduate of Rutgers College College of South Jersey. He also served in the U.S. Navy Seabees World War!! and served in the Philippine Islands.
He married Ann Boswell from Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, in 1948 at the "Little Church Around The Corner" in New York City. They had three children and while they were growing up he became very active in the Boy Scouts of America, YMCA, coached little league teams and swimming where he always taught his teams good sportsmanship. He served for 25 years as a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association PIAA as a swimming official of which he became president and served on the Board of Directors. He was a motorcycle and race car fan along with his family. He was an avid outdoor lover.
Jim was employed as sales supervisor in the wholesale drug business with Smithe, Kline and French, The Drug House, Amerisource for 37 years. He served the Northeast Pennsylvania, Lehigh Valley and Pocono Mountain areas. He also was former Deacon in the College Hill Presbyterian Church in Easton, Pennsylvania.

Jim was a devoted family man and a loyal friend to all who knew him. He was a very giving man and was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed. His family and friends meant the world to him.
He was preceded in death by his mother Anna C. Knipe, father, James N. Knipe and brother, William J. Knipe.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, three children....Cheryl Brinson of Rincon, GA, her husband Lavon, Charles A. Knipe of Mountainhome, Pa., and Justine, James W. Knipe of Bethlehem, Pa., his wife, Sandra.....four grandchildren, Christina Crone of Pooler, Ga., Cody Brinson of Rincon, Ga., Falon and Drew Knipe of Mountainhome, Pa., two great-grandchildren......Chloe and Cash Crone of Pooler, GA, Step grandchildren: Joseph Brinson, Todd Morrison, Amy Luizza and their families,....a niece, three nephews and sister-in-law Bette Knipe of Blackwood, N.J.

A Memorial Service to honor his life will be held at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Islands Chapel on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. Calling hours 6-7 p.m. Service at 7 p.m.

Remembrances in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice Savannah or Tybee Island Veterans Memorial Circle of Freedom, Tybee Island, Ga. - TybeeVetMemorial.com

I knew Grandmom Knipe. Uncle Bill would talk about Uncle Jim and Aunt Ann. He told me about going to visit you. I was sorry to hear that Uncle Jim died. I also knew he was sick.
